I have always been most successful learning when I feel comfortable and confident around my instructors, and my goal is to create such an environment for the students I tutor. I believe in first and foremost being supportive and building on the student's skills.

I grew up in a rural town in southeastern Connecticut and our small community school fostered that type of environment. I am currently an undergraduate at Harvard University where I am studying Environmental Science and Engineering. Motivated by my love of the outdoors, including running, hiking, skiing, and nature photography, I am passionate about environmental protection and climate change mitigation. My studies have led me to take rigorous classes in math and the sciences, and I have past experience helping my peers with math and writing. Though I am qualified to tutor in a range of subjects, I feel most specialized in math, physics, test preparation, and essay-editing.

In addition to my academic experience, I have a significant teaching background with hands-on skills such as tool use, construction techniques, and outdoor safety. I worked as a Youth Leader for the Youth Conservation Corps, where I taught construction skills and daily Resource Education lessons. My wide breadth of teaching experiences from academic to more hands-on topics has heavily shaped my teaching philosophy as I have gained an understanding of various teaching methods. I feel that the most effective tutors are in fact able to blend these methods by presenting a topic from several different perspectives, whether a conceptual, visual, or hands-on approach. Furthermore, a tutor must be able to readily switch between these approaches and adapt on-the-fly based on a student's individual needs and learning style. Teaching is not a formulaic interaction but rather a conversation and self-discovery that guides itself in real time. I am excited to provide a friendly, supportive environment in which students can excel and achieve their full potential!
