Hello! My name is William, and I am a P.h.D. student at Columbia in Mechanical Engineering. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a mechanical engineering major and a math minor. When I was helping my sister study for the SAT math section, I realized I loved teaching. It gave me a better understanding of the material I enjoyed, and it was fascinating to see her gain skills and knowledge.
Furthermore, I have experience teaching through my involvement in the 3D printing club and camp at Gaston Day School. I started the club in high school and acted as their president for a few years. Over the summer, I was a counselor for high schoolers looking to learn more about additive manufacturing. I helped write the curriculum for this camp and teach the material. Being in college upper division mathematics, I also have extensive experience studying in groups. It is often the case in group learning that you must take on the role of the teacher to explain things to your peers and the part of the student when you don't understand something yourself. This means that I have experience on both sides of the teaching equation. During these times, as a camp counselor, an SAT/ACT tutor, and a study group member, I learned to teach effectively.

I am experienced in tutoring ACT and SAT math. I can teach shortcuts and strategies to succeed on these tests. I also received my mathematics minor at UC Berkeley to help with higher levels of math like calculus and linear algebra. I can also help with physics since I earned an A+ in Physics 7A and 7B at UC Berkeley.

My mission is to help with homework or test prep by facilitating an understanding of the material and, hopefully, to have fun along the way. If you would like to work with me, let me know, and I would be happy to help!

Sincerely,
Will
