I am a clinical researcher at Duke University Medical Center. I recently graduated from Duke with BS degree in Neuroscience and a second BA in Dance. I lived and studied in China for all of my middle school and high school education, so I am bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese. In high school, I attained a bilingual International Baccalaureate diploma with Higher Level Biology, English Literature and Psychology, as well as Standard Level Math, Music and Chinese Language and Literature A. I have always had a wide variety of academic interests, especially in the health sciences, natural sciences, psychology, literature and performing arts.
As an educator, it is important to me that I am showing up for my students as a mentor in more than one way. As a young person and someone who recently graduated from school, I understand the pressures and challenges that my students face, and I find that students succeed when they feel in control of their own decisions and their own learning. I believe that students know themselves best and often times, with the right kind of support, can identify what they need and how they want to learn. This requires trust, teamwork, and a flexible curriculum tailored to the student's personal needs.
I enjoy tutoring a wide variety of subjects, including the SAT and SAT Subject Tests, Math and the Biological Sciences, as well as Mandarin Chinese (all levels), English Literature, Psychology, Music and Dance. These subjects are all deeply related to my research and academic careers, so it is a privilege to be able to share with younger students and deepen my own learning in the process. I can also provide help with university applications, and as a professional performer, I can help with audition preparation and application processes for conservatories and general universities.
