About Me

I am a rising sophomore at Rice University, working towards a B.S. in Astrophysics and a minor in Business. In the past, I worked at a science museum teaching visitors about different fields of science through interactive demonstrations. I have also tutored high school students in Physics, and both high school and middle school students in Latin. Most recently, I mentored students in a summer program that introduced them to the world of research, specifically to the field of solar physics. One reason that I love physics is that no one understands everything about the subject right away. It’s a complicated science, and we all need help grasping some of its more difficult concepts. This leads to great bonding experiences where friends come together to solve challenging problems or to understand puzzling phenomena. As a tutor, I love the moment when a student finally understands a troublesome concept, and a light bulb goes off in his or her head (often accompanied by an “Ohh!”). There’s an explanation that does the trick for everybody, and we just have to find it – that’s my teaching philosophy. I like to use lots of analogies and stories in my explanations, because anchoring difficult concepts in everyday experiences makes them much easier to comprehend. In addition to physics, I also enjoy tutoring subjects in math (Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, etc.), and Biology and Chemistry. And in my spare time, I enjoy playing Club Frisbee, cards, ukulele, and watching YouTube videos (sometimes for education and other times for laughs)!
