About Me

I have been teaching and designing curriculum for middle school, high school, and college students since 2010. My curriculum and lesson plans are guided by the belief that every student has a unique set of talents that, when harnessed correctly, can be used to achieve even the most ambitious goals. I work particularly well with students who want to improve their reading and writing abilities. I make reading lessons understandable and interesting, and I love to share the writing strategies that helped me win my scholarships to the college of my dreams... and become its newspaper's editor! Are you more comfortable with STEM skills than reading and writing? My STEM-focused students often tell me that my lessons get them to see these language skills from an analytical viewpoint, which helps them use their natural strengths on reading and writing assignments. My test prep curriculum also includes strategies you may not have encountered anywhere else. You are the key to your own success, and together we can unlock any achievement you can imagine! If you want a tutor who listens to you, cheers you on, and shares school-proven strategies to enhance your learning, I am the right tutor for you. Basic Info: I graduated from Knox College in 2011 with a B.A. in Secondary Education. I have worked in the classroom with gifted students, students with learning disabilities, adult learners and English-language learners, so I have had the opportunity to hone my teaching skills to meet many different needs. Currently I am teaching 8th grade U.S. History in Oklahoma.

Q&A with Rachel

In my experience, students learn best when they are encouraged to ask lots of questions. By structuring our lessons as a conversation, I get students asking complex questions that will boost both comprehension and recall. In "educational lingo," my style is known as "Socratic."
