About Me

After graduating from UC San Diego with a Bachelor's Degree in Literature/Writing I spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English in Ukraine. In addition to teaching fourth through eleventh graders in the classroom, I worked with motivated students individually to prepare them for academic competitions and qualifying tests for study abroad programs. I also led English clubs in the city library where I helped university students and adults improve their conversational skills and their knowledge of the English speaking world. It was an immensely rewarding and formative experience, from which I gained the ability to tailor my teaching methods to meet the needs of every individual I worked with and to overcome language and cultural barriers through patience, understanding, and a good sense of humor. While I enjoy teaching the mechanics of Englishwhether as a first language or secondmy true love is Literature. As an undergrad at UCSD I tutored small groups of fellow students in writing fiction and poetry, leading workshops and facilitating peer critique. I was also one of two undergraduate students invited to enroll in UCSD's first MFA poetry workshop. In my spare time I love to read, write, ride bicycles, hike, surf, garden, cook, and travel. This summer I went on a road trip across America that only left me wanting to see more! I also enjoy bookmaking and linocut printing, though my graphic design skills leave something to be desired.
