A Syracuse prep course with Varsity Tutors will help you with your preparations on the MCAT. The MCAT is a comprehensive exam that is required by most medical schools within the United States. Future medical students who desire to attend medical school at a major university, like SUNY Upstate Medical University, will have to submit their MCAT scores with their application paperwork. Before you take the MCAT, you want to be confident with your test-taking skills and fully prepared by having a thorough understanding of the materials on the exam. You want to achieve your best scores because they can be the deciding element in your acceptance into a college or university.
The MCAT has four sections: Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior; Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills; and Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems. Each of the four sections has specific time allotments, question types, and content that is included. Your time management skills must be efficient as you must respond to each question on the MCAT. Do not let the stresses of taking the MCAT intimidate you from maintaining your goal of completing medical school. Let's have a general review of the materials on the MCAT.
What materials you will need for Syracuse MCAT courses?
The materials that you will use in your Syracuse MCAT course resemble the materials that you will encounter on the MCAT. You will need to work efficiently because you want to provide an answer to all of the questions. If you need to plan for test day, expect your testing time to be six hours and fifteen minutes; however, your total seated time will be seven hours and thirty minutes. Your teacher will assist you and your classmates with the material on the MCAT as well as test-taking strategies and tips that will help you with the exam and in future educational settings.
When you begin your test, you will arrive at a section entitled Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. Throughout this section, your comprehension of behavioral acts, the analysis of opinionated thoughts about self and others, cultural and social differences that influence an individual's well-being, and the relationships between social stratification, access to resources, and the perceptions of different comfort levels will be tested. As you work through this section, you will demonstrate your abilities to serve diverse populations, knowledge of mental health issues, different behavior effects on health, and reveal the discourse with social issues and the medical field. Within this section of the MCAT, you have 59 multiple-choice questions during the 95 minutes time frame.
As you navigate through your exam, you will encounter a section called Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems. The central concept of this section will measure your knowledge of the functions of the human body's tissues, organs, and organ systems. Additional topics include principles that work in collaboration with the mechanisms operating in the human body, and the principles of living systems. Questions you will have to answer focus on the subjects of general chemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry, preliminary physics, introductory biology, and biochemistry. Be sure to review topics that relate to the operations of different organs and organ systems, biochemical functions, and direct correlation to the laws of physics. Become familiar with the periodic table and chemical reactions. You will have to answer 59 questions with 95 minutes to respond to all items.
The next section is entitled Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills. The purpose here is to measure verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, and incorporate your analytical abilities. Be mindful that this section does not cover a deep understanding of studies that are the central focus of the social science field; however, you still must reply and demonstrate your abilities within English through the evaluation of written work. Within the Critical Analysis and Reasoning section of the MCAT, you should showcase the skills of being able to apply ideas and concepts to new contexts, evaluate the effect of further information on new passages, and your abilities to infer meaning from compositional elements. Different from the previous section, you will have 90 minutes to provide an answer to 53 questions.

...Institute of Technology working on novel drug delivery systems for the gastrointestinal tract. I am hoping to attend medical school in pursuit of becoming a physician. I am currently interested in pediatrics and psychiatry but I am looking forward to exploring a range of available disciplines. I enjoy tutoring because I find it to be an engaging and dynamic process--I love working with students of all ages on a broad spectrum of subjects.... I believe that every student learns in his or her own way; some of us are audio learners, some of us are visual learners, some need to talk it out or ask questions, and others simply need to listen. Each student is capable of finding the teaching methodology that works best for him or her!

...science to history and biochemistry to critical reading. My favorite subjects to tutor though, are standardized test prep and biochemistry. Though enjoying standardized tests is not a common opinion, I have always liked the logical nature of standardized test questions, and the fact that simply by working on a few test taking skills students can see marked improvement. Biochemistry, while far from a simple field, is one of my favorite subjects. I find the chemical...

I am a finance and accounting professional at a Fortune 100 firm with an MBA and currently pursuing the CMA. My teaching method would absolutely vary depending on the student. Visual learners need different kind of help than non-visual. For visual learners, I would try to paint a picture of the problem or formula so it is easier for them to understand. For non-visual, I can stick more with formulas, numbers, and memorization. ... To get the student not to simply memorize how to get or find an answer, but to help them reach a level of confidence and preparation that makes the material seem second nature to them.
