Varsity Tutors can connect prospective medical school students with a Virginia Beach MCAT prep class designed to help you prepare for this crucial exam. The reason the MCAT is such an important part of applying to medical schools is that is that admissions boards at schools like Richmond's Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk use your score to determine how well you'll perform in your medical school courses.
If you're looking for focused academic support as you review, or if you want to improve your current academic understanding, a Virginia Beach MCAT prep course might be a fantastic option. This type of study program is designed for groups of students and a single instructor. A Virginia Beach GMAT prep course can give you an idea of the content and design of the test before you take it. It also helps you to clarify topics that you might struggle with in the collaborative environment of a classroom.
What can I expect from a Virginia Beach MCAT prep class?
A Virginia Beach GMAT prep class will connect you with students and an instructor as if you were in the same actual location. This is possible because of our Live Learning Platform, which uses the Internet to bring everyone together.
This computer-based test is comprised of 230 multiple choice questions in four different content areas: Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills; Psychological, Social and Biological Foundations of Behavior; Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; and Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems. Seated time for the test is approximately 7.5 hours, while the test is expected to take 6 hours and 15 minutes. Time management is very important, with that many questions to answer. After you take the exam, you'll receive five different scores: scores for each individual section, which range from 118-132, and an overall combined total score, which ranges from 472-528. Let's jump into the discussion of each section, starting with Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills.
The Critical Analysis and Reasoning skills section is comprised of 53 questions, divided among nine separate passages. You'll be tested on your knowledge of how to infer meaning from the compositional elements in a passage, examining the impact of new information on a passage and its meaning, and several other areas. Questions in this section focus on your verbal reasoning skills, analytical skills, and your reading comprehension. You'll be given 90 minutes to complete this section.
The Psychological, Social and Biological Foundations of Behavior section is comprised of 59 questions, with 10 passage-based sets of up to 6 questions per passage. There are also 15 independent questions. As a physician, you'll serve an increasingly diverse population, and that's what this section is about, the skills you'll need. It also explores the social issues in medicine and the effects of behavior on one's overall health, as well as the relationships between social stratification, access to resources, and well-being, among other topics.
The Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section includes 59 questions. These questions are divided into 10 sets of questions that derive from individual passages. There are 4-6 questions to answer for each set in the section. You'll also have 15 other questions to answer. This section evaluates your knowledge of the tissues, organs and organ systems in the human body, and the chemical and physical principles that affect how the human body functions. These questions test you on the subjects of introductory physics, basic biochemistry, laws of physics, and the periodic table.
Fifty-nine questions make up the Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section, with 10 sets of questions with 4-6 questions per passage, and 15 other questions. You'll have 95 minutes to complete the entire section. Examiners want to know about your knowledge of how cells and organs work in this particular section, and how they maintain a constant environment, get materials and create energy. There are several other topics in the section too. Questions focus on two areas of chemistry: general and organic, introductory biology, and basic biochemistry.
How can a Virginia Beach MCAT prep course help me?
No matter where you are in your planning and preparation for the Medical College Admission Test, focused instruction and the opportunity to interact with others who are studying the same materials can make a difference in how well you understand complicated topics. Lively discussion can give you insights that you hadn't thought of before, and you'll still have an opportunity to interact with your instructor privately if you find you need it.
Using our Live Learning Platform, you'll connect with your fellow students and the academic mentor who will guide you through the material you can expect to see and have to answer on the exam. The fact that these courses are delivered online gives you more flexibility and is the reason you can take a class from wherever you are in the world as long as you have an Internet connection. Studying under an expert instructor can expose you to fresh angles on tough concepts and tips on things like test taking, handling test anxiety and study strategies that you can use when you're studying on your own.
