Hello, I am a recent graduate of the University of Washington where I received my Bachelor's degree in English. I graduated on the Dean's List and received a scholarship to fund an Undergraduate Research paper on American Literature. During my studies I volunteered at a Seattle School in ESL classrooms. There I worked with groups of students and individuals on a variety of subjects including english, math, and social studies.My tutoring style centers around exploring a students strengths and weaknesses and working realistically with them to improve their knowledge. Each student is an individual and needs individualized learning. But of course there are general strategies which I find effective. Although I am capable of tutoring a variety of subjects my specialty is English and writing essays as it is what I have the most experience in. My strategy for attacking any essay topic is to help tofirst gather information, plan out how to form it into an effective argument, and then get to writing. At this point I work with student from the sentence level through paragraph and finally to overall structure. My goal is to not only improve the current essay, but to imporve essay writing skills permanently.I am passionate about teaching, and find it constantly rewarding. Currently I am awaiting deployment to Sub-Saharan Africa with the Peace Corps where among other things I will teach. Aside from this I also enjoy playing guitar and listening to music, films, jogging, and just hanging out with friends. I grew up in Kirkland and have lived in Washington my whole life.

I truly love both mathematics and physics. I studied both of them in college and found the subjects to be engaging and useful. During high school and college, I gained a lot of experience tutoring informally and formally in a range of math subjects and physics topics. Even as a major of physics in college, I would sometimes end up tutoring other physics majors in some Junior level physics classes if I had taken the class before.In my free time, I like to hang out with friends, read (mostly sci-fi and fiction), play video games, and study new topics in physics and math. I am currently taking a class at the University of Washington, Bothell for fun, it's called 'Abstract Algebra'. I fell in love with math early when I realized it was just one idea that was built on another. I then took physics in my senior year of college and fell in love with that as well.In my opinion, physics is so fascinating because of it's predictable nature. It let's physicists predict the existence of stellar objects--like the prediction of black holes by Einstein in the early 1900s-- predict where our spaceship will land if we fire the rocket at this or that angle, or predict if and how it is possible to produce clean, near limitless energy in the form of cold fusion. It also, by its nature, seeks to explain the different phenomena and mysteries that the world contains. Quantum physics explained why the periodic table of elements was periodic, one of the biggest mysteries for chemists since its development.

I am a graduate of the University of Florida. I earned my BA in English there in 2006, followed by my MA in Linguistics in 2008. My master's thesis focused on ESL pedagogy and second language acquisition. As a graduate student, and for eight years after, I worked at the University of Florida English Language Institute, UF's intensive English program for international students. At the UF ELI, I taught listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and pronunciation. I have also taught native English-speaking students at UF and Santa Fe College in Gainesville, FL, in both linguistics and beginning English composition.I love teaching. Making connections with my students, getting to know them better, and helping them achieve their goals is so fulfilling for me. I especially love getting to know international students. I am fascinated by other countries, cultures, and languages, and relish the opportunity to connect with students from all corners of the globe.In my free time, I enjoy reading, writing, and spending time with my husband and our two children (ages four and two). Despite my choice of studies, I have often been frustrated with own my math and science class experiences, and how often I see one bad class/teacher/experience ruin a student's self-confidence or passion. I have the most experience in math and science, but I can also help out with English, introductory Spanish, or test prep. Outside of work, I play ice hockey, volunteer for Seattle's Youth Tutoring Program, read, and occasionally hike/bike/run.
