As a history lover, I know must students do not like history and I try to make all my lessons engaging and relevant for all my students. I graduated from Saint Martin's University in 2012 with my degree in Political Science and minor in US History. While at SMU, I was able to participate in an internship with Jay Inslee and at the Washington State Legislature. I was also a college cheerleader and worked as part of the intramural program.
After receiving my undergraduate degree, I attended the University of Southern California for a Master's in Arts in Teaching, focusing on Secondary Social Studies. I have taught in both California and Washington state, both basic history and Advance Placement courses.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe all students learn; however, not all the same. I focus on Social Cognitive Learning Theory, which drives my lessons to provide students the ability to learn new material through dialogue. This gives me the ability to assess my student’s needs and address those needs.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

The first session I would use to get to know my student. I'd find out their interests, goals, and create a relationship with my students. Students will not learn if they do not feel comfortable or cared about.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By providing students the tool to problem solve and critically think, they will become independent lifelong learners.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By creating tangible goals, students will understand the work they are putting in will make them successful.
