We found a book the student likes (Junie B Jones), so we continued reading from that. We read a part where Junie's teacher assigns a poem to the class following very specific rules, so after we were done reading, I suggested that we write a poem following those rules also. The student loved the idea and we wrote two poems together, which was great writing and spelling practice for her.

The student wrote about fishing using vocabulary words. He completed a math measurements page by first estimating a measurement for an object or person. He then measured the object or person to find the accurate measurement. Finally he used math to find the difference.

We began our session by completing the student's required 15 minutes of reading. I then had her answer questions relating to what we read. Next, we completed two math worksheets that I provided. One required that she add together three sets of coins, of her choosing, and determine their sums. The second worksheet consisted of addition fact families, providing addition and subtraction problems.

The student and I covered phonics, spelling, punctuation, adding, counting money, and multiplication. I left him with spelling words to go over. I have no concerns for this session.

For this session, we worked on ACT prep. Student 1 covered Science and English, and Student 2 covered Science and Reading. Scores are at about 90% now. Some are at 100%. We will focus on finishing Science and then begin Essay Writing on Monday of next week. After this, we'll begin using a different prep test. Both are showing great improvement!

This session focused specifically on math skills in preparation for the student's midterm assessment in math. Because he has been struggling, we decided to begin from the fundamentals of exponents and square roots, and work our way through higher levels of difficulty. He excelled in these fundamentals (what are common squares, common square roots, how to write the expanded form, etc.), but began to struggle when we moved into scientific notation. Most of our session was spent focusing on how to write scientific notation, and how to multiply and divide scientific notation. Though it was a struggle at first, when I left, he was multiplying and dividing all of the practice problems I had given him correctly! We will still need to focus on simplifying squares next session, but he showed great improvement during this session.
