Recent Centennial Study Skills and Organization Tutoring Session Notes
This was our final tutoring session together before the student returns back to school. We spent some time discussing ways in which she can ensure continued use of the strategies we developed over the past several weeks. Despite being nervous about the start of the new school year, she is also optimistic about using the skills she has acquired and is excited about the academic implications of the hard work she has done. We finished the session by having her synthesize the third chapter of her Religions text, ensuring that she begins the semester ahead in this course.

We spent the majority of the session discussing and completing the outline, which he is using for a class essay in English (approved by the teacher). We also discussed problem solving and properly implementing the organization skills we laid out over our three sessions.

The student and I reviewed her notes from her reading assignment. I told her to break her work sessions up into 10-15 minute increments, allowing for a 1 minute break in between each increment. I gave her ideas as to how to best spend these short breaks, such as yoga and deep breaths. I hope that these shorter work sessions and frequent breaks will help with her focus and motivation when reading. I gave her a chapter to read and take notes on-relative humidity; she will be taking a quiz on the material when I see her next.

We discussed how to write a school summary for each day after school in order to extract the main topics discussed in each class. He showed compliance with our previous organizational scheme, color coordinating his planner and brought a new binder with loose leaf paper for our study sessions like I asked him. I left him with only one assignment. He is to prepare school summaries for each day that we are apart (Friday and Monday) so that we can look over what he does in school each day and help stay organized.

The student and I discussed her schools of choice and other possible schools based on her interests in art, art education, art history, sociology, and social work. Added SAIC to the list as they take a common app and decided that we wanted to work on creating an art portfolio.

Student A and I practiced using the properties of triangles to formulate algebra problems which allowed us to solve for variables and missing angle measures. He finished his worksheet.
