Detroit, MI Physics tutoring
We studied interference phenomena and did problems that are part of assignments due in one week. We will work on the remaining assignments next time and plan an attack for the final. The student seems to know the structure well enough, but needs help picking equations. I will focus on understanding the concepts so that she will be able to correctly pick the relevant equations.

The student and I continued working on problems from her "modern" unit. She is doing very well in a highly conceptual unit. The student is also taking more initiative and has more confidence in the material. Today she told me that we didn't need to talk about a section because she felt she could research it on her own.

Yesterday we reviewed over mirrors for the student's test that is coming up. She knew that she had to go over ray diagrams so we went over them in detail. I think that if she goes over them a couple of times she will be pretty good. She feels pretty strong about the rest of the other topics that they covered in this cycle so I think she will be OK.

In today's session (10:00am to 11:30am), The student reported having taken another practice chemistry test. He said he scored a 770! Despite being a practice test, I was pleased by his drastic improvement. We started physics. Today we focused on mechanics such as vectors, scalars, displacement, kinematic equations, work and energy, newton's three laws, and momentum. We are pushing through mechanics rather quickly due to the fact that we are both pushed for time and he seems to understand mechanical physics very well. Although I did want to spend one and half tutoring session on mechanics going over mistakes commonly made because it makes up 42% of the entire exam. We have started a cheat sheet for physics as well. Next session I plan to finish circular motion and mechanics and attempt to get through all of harmonics if possible. Again my only issue is that we are really pressed for time, but I am very happy we have succeeded in chemistry.

Detroit, MI Physics tutoring
This was our first session. We went over a practice test and got more than half way through it. I can see that the student has a solid fundamental knowledge of physics and math, however he struggles with initiating a question. I suggested he draw pictures to help illustrate what the question is asking and to highlight and write down important givens, which helped. He needs to be a bit more familiar with the formulas to better prepare, he often takes a while to point out which formulas to use. I told him to finish the exam we started and that we would go over it the next session if he encountered any problems. Overall he did very well he's a bright kid and I think he can do well if he studies the formulas and puts into practice the methods of answering physics I showed him.
