The Writing and Language portion has 44 questions with a 35-minute time limit. Its questions have written passages, and some of them contain charts, graphs, and tables. The Essay portion has only one question. Here, you read a passage and critique the writer's argument. You have to write it from a third person point-of-view; in other words, you need to be objective, not give your opinion of the passage. You're scored on the number of questions answered correctly. Therefore, it's important to not skip questions. You won't get penalized for guessing, though.
