If you want extra assistance with studying for the SAT, we at Varsity Tutors can lend you a hand by connecting you with a Miami SAT class. In each class, you can review the test along with other students. The SAT is a standardized exam that many universities use to see if potential students can handle the rigors of college-level work.
You may benefit from a Miami SAT class. You can access all classes through the internet, and these sessions are directed by a professional teacher. The classes help you become familiar with the exam's layout and other components.
If you attend Ransom Everglades School or Mast Academy, your teachers have probably told you a little about the SAT. The test introduces you to subjects that you may encounter in college classes. You should do your best on it because your chances of admission to a university may be partially determined by your overall score.
What could a Miami SAT course help me review?
The SAT exam includes four sections: Math, Reading, Writing and Language, and Essay (the Essay section is optional). You have about three hours to finish the three required sections. If you choose to complete the Essay portion, you'll have 50 more minutes to complete the whole test. On the day of the test, you're allowed to take one 10-minute break and one five-minute break. Read on about each test section below.
The Math portion has 58 questions split into two sections, and it has an 80-minute time limit. Twenty of its questions are multiple-choice questions and grid-ins that forbid calculator use. The other 38 questions also have a combination of multiple-choice and grid-in questions except you can use a calculator to help you answer these questions. It covers problems involving linear equations, data, and expressions. It's worth 200 to 800 points.
The Reading portion contains 52 questions with a time limit of 65 minutes. It has passages related to Earth science, psychology, literature, and other subjects. This portion requires you to understand the meaning behind words and phrases as well as understand how the authors provide evidence for their arguments. It shares a scoring range of 200 to 800 points with the Writing and Language portion.
The Writing and Language portion has 44 questions with a 35-minute time limit. Its questions have written passages, and some of them contain charts, graphs, and tables. Your job is to tap into your vocabulary, grammar, and editing skills to answer questions. It shares a scoring range of 200 to 800 points with the Reading portion.
The Essay portion has only one question. Here, you read a passage and critique the writer's argument. You have to write it from a third person point-of-view; in other words, you need to be objective, not give your opinion of the passage. It's recommended that you take this portion because some schools require it. It's worth 6 to 24 points.
You're scored on the number of questions answered correctly. Therefore, it's important to not skip questions. You won't get penalized for guessing, though.
How does a Miami SAT course help me review for the test?
Each Miami SAT class is accessible online. Are you swamped with outside responsibilities like an after-school job or an extracurricular activity? We're glad to say that these classes offer new sections every week, so you can study for the SAT without giving up something you're passionate about. You can choose to join a two-week class or a four-week class. A two-week class is ideal for a short-term exam review. If you want to study for it a little longer, then a four-week class may suffice. Once you find one that fits your needs, you can start engaging in lessons. You can study from any place that offers a stable internet connection like your home or your favorite coffee shop.
When you enroll in a Miami SAT course, you'll associate with a skilled instructor and other college-bound students. You and your fellow pupils will work in group activities and discussions to prepare for the SAT. Group work helps you in many ways. For one, you can easily reach out to another student when you need assistance with a section of the exam. Though you can study on your own, it's tougher to figure it out something alone in case you get stuck. Also, you may adopt a deeper understanding of a topic and better prepare you for test day. You and your peers can review parts of the Writing and Language section by going over grammar rules or by studying a vocabulary builder. Do you want to complete the Essay section? Your teacher can provide all of you a writing prompt for practicing writing and analyzation skills. Some people become apprehensive as test day approaches. You or someone else can suggest relaxation techniques like breathing exercises or mantras to try to calm one's fears.
In each course, you also can ask the teacher for private help. You may struggle with certain sections that you prefer to discuss in a one-on-one setting. Additionally, they can share clever test-taking tips like how to choose between two correct-sounding answers. The instructors who lead these sessions go through a thorough interview process to make sure that they can communicate well and that they're knowledgeable about their subjects.
