Math Tutoring review by Justin in Schenectady, NY
We began our preparation for the student's final on Thursday. This is our first day of prep. We went over a variety of topics ranging from basic integrals and derivatives, implicit differentiation, logarithmic differentiation, trig/inverse trig integrals and derivatives, summations, Riemann sums, etc. He seems confident with the material, and I feel he will do well.

In today's session we reviewed a supplementary worksheet covering estimating. We also worked from the text book on taking averages, finding number values halfway between two other numbers, and working with line graphs. For the next session we will try to insert some activity around the one-hour mark as attention for 90 minutes is a struggle. We should also keep pushing the pace up as there are a lot of topics to cover to meet 6th grade standards in math.

Math Tutoring review by Kevin in Schenectady, NY
Today we covered number lines and inequalities. The student was struggling with converting an inequality into a solution and plotting the solution on a number line. The students were positive but were struggling. I taught them about maintaining the relationships between numbers regardless of what the numbers are. I also taught them about the directions of number lines and how to move around them. I left 5 extra problems, and I gave new numbers to a word problem they had on a test. I saw some test scores, but they weren't accurate as the kids guessed a lot. The students say that they understand but when we do some practice on the questions, the students are still struggling. We handled inequalities well, but we need more time.

Math Tutoring review by Martine in Schenectady, NY
I covered the math chapter on Dilation. She had difficulty figuring out if the two shapes showed enlargement, reduction dilation, or just congruency. I explained the assignment and solved the first two pages and allowed her to do the last 4 by herself. I went over what she missed and explained the reason. I also covered the distance and midpoint formula with lots of practices. I left her the examples to go over again as homework. She took a test last week, and once she receives the test back, I will go over the ones that she missed.

Math Tutoring review by Pamela in Schenectady, NY
The student and I began by getting to know each other. I reviewed with social studies notes and a study guide for his exam. He did very well. We continued with his math homework on evaluating expressions, graphs and rotations. I made some recommendations on how to begin preparing for tests, and lastly we discussed the new book he will be reading.

Covered definite integrals - evaluation techniques. Did several problems that incorporated multiple concepts: u-substitution integration, changing the bounds, etc. We really need to focus on transferring things from his short-term memory into his long-term memory.
