The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is used by many private and parochial high schools as a part of their admissions process. The exam consists of 300 questions and takes approximately two and a half hours to complete. It is available to students in eighth grade.
The HSPT is traditionally made up of five sections. These include verbal skills, quantitative skills, reading, language, and math. The verbal skills section explores synonyms, logic, verbal classification, antonyms, and analogies. The quantitative skills section covers number series, geometric and non-geometric comparisons, geometry numbers, and arithmetical numbers.
The reading section includes vocabulary and reading comprehension. The language section focuses on grammar, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. Finally, the math section emphasizes geometry, arithmetic, and algebra.
