Which grade in?

Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

What year in?

I want to thank VT for connecting me with my English tutor. I'm a 49 yr old that enrolled back in college to complete my degree and I was having the most difficult time meeting the demands of my writing assignments. But fortunately, I was matched with an educator that has made what seemed hopeless in my efforts to write academic papers effectively a piece of cake.

I'm very grateful to have found VT. They made the difference between a pass and fail grade for my son. English was one of his most challenging classes and with Varsity Tutors he passed the course. I'm forever grateful.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

English Tutoring review by Stephen in St. Charles, MO
He did pretty well in his review, and we worked more out of his vocabulary book. He needs to focus on writing a sentence, reviewing it, and then moving on to the following sentence.

Student 1 - We spent today doing a practice passage by fully discussing the events and implications of the passage and then answering practice questions. I assigned him 20 SAT words from his flashcard set to memorize for next time. Student 2 and I went over the HW reading comp I'd left her last week. We discussed her answers and where they could answer the question more fully. We then moved onto a new reading comp assignment with the intent to work on an expository writing assignment in our coming sessions; the topic was earthquakes and tsunamis.

English Tutoring review by David in St. Charles, MO
The student and I worked on creating a research outline and a tentative thesis for his research paper. He had done enough research that we were able to put together a nice outline of what areas to explore in more detail. By the end of the evening, we had produced a nice introductory paragraph that he was very pleased with.

English Tutoring review by Renee in St. Charles, MO
The student had some work to complete on the educational website. We also worked on reviewing vocabulary words. We viewed and discussed a powerpoint on writing an introductory paragraph and the importance of the topic sentence. After completion, he was given the task of writing three introductory paragraphs based on three different types of topic sentences; one introductory paragraph was based on responding to a quote; another was responding to a general piece of information and the third was responding to a question.

English Tutoring review by Zoe in St. Charles, MO
The student and I worked on his persuasive speech. He has to present the speech to his teacher online. He has struggled with public speaking in the past and has received some negative comments before, so I wanted to make sure that he was comfortable with it. We practiced it many times and went through the speech sentence by sentence and restructured it so that it would flow better. We also put the speech together with his PowerPoint presentation and figured out how he would transition between to the slides and when to change slides. By the end, his pacing was much better and the speech sounded great; it was about 4 minutes long. I went through the rubric to make sure he was covering the basic areas of grading. We also added and edited slides in his PowerPoint presentation to make it more fitting with the speech. He emailed his teacher his speech and PowerPoint and asked when he could record it for his teacher. We are going to work on his research project at our next session.
