Economics Tutoring review by Cortland in Memphis, TN
In today's session we reviewed topics from the previous sessions on inflation and its impact on economic statistics. Following the review, we introduced the functions and characteristics of money. We talked about commodity money, representative money, and fiat money. The student showed progress during the review.

Economics Tutoring review by Daniel in Memphis, TN
The student came prepared with a set of sample questions to help her study for an upcoming exam. We successfully worked through all of the problems, and she was confident with the material by the end, especially with some additional review of examples in her textbook. Topics we covered included: marginal cost, the marginal product of labor, the long run average total cost curve, returns to and economies of scale, markets in imperfect competition (oligopoly, monopolistic competition), variable costs (TC=FC+VC), fixed costs over time, and the differences between economic and accounting profits.

Economics Tutoring review by Holly in Memphis, TN
We covered indifference curves, maximizing utility functions, the marginal rate of substitution, the Laspeyres index, and the ideal cost of living index. As we looked at some practice problems, the student was struggling a bit with calculus and the marginal rate of substitution. To address those issues, I reviewed some calculus basics with him and explained the marginal rate of substitution using graphs, definitions, and formulas. He began to feel more confident in the material as we reviewed it. I suggested he not only look at the concepts and understand them, but also ensure that he can do the practice problems independently so that he can solve problems on a test. By the end of the session, he had made significant progress, and he will continue to do so with more tutoring and assistance.

Economics Tutoring review by Joe in Memphis, TN
We covered demand elasticity and worked together on the student's midterm project. I feel she has a good handle on the material and should do quite well on her exam. She only needs to slow down and take her time with graphs and formulas to make sure that she is applying her skills efficiently.

Economics Tutoring review by Colby in Memphis, TN
The student and I covered firm operations in perfectly competitive markets, and we also covered some of the basics for monopolies. This meant demonstrating graphically the points at which firms want to operate, as well as where the markets dictate that they will operate. She showed great enthusiasm for the subject, especially as we began to shift from my teaching of the material, to her slowly uncovering the concepts herself by comparing new concepts to the ones she had seen before. By the end of the session, she was already creating the graphs herself to answer new questions, and draw new conclusions on the economics of price takers and price makers.

Economics Tutoring review by John in Memphis, TN
Today we mostly worked through basic math problems related to taking derivatives. The student's main problem seems to be that he hasn't had a lot of practice with basic mathematical mechanics so he gets lost in the weeds from time to time. We agreed that from now on, we would try to look at old problem sets because he feels that he will gain more insight from discovering how he went astray. We will also continue to work on solving ongoing problem sets. He deals with very sophisticated mathematics as a financial analyst, so I hope he'll be able to deal with these new challenges.
