If you've been searching for a comprehensive CLEP Precalculus course to help you prepare for the exam, booking a private CLEP Precalc class through Varsity Tutors could be a great idea. The CLEP program allows college students to apply what they have learned in high school, at work, or through independent study to earn college credit and finish their degree more quickly. Taking a CLEP Precalculus prep class could help you build the study skills necessary to pursue your academic goals, so why not give us a call today?
One of the first questions typically asked in our CLEP Precalc courses is what students should expect on exam day. The CLEP Precalculus test utilizes an electronic format and covers the topics in the breakdown below:
| Topics |
% of Test |
# Questions |
Time |
| Algebraic Expressions, Equations, and Inequalities | 20% | 48 | 90 Minutes |
| Functions: Concept, Properties, and Operations | 15% | ||
| Representations of Functions: Symbolic, Graphical, and Tabular | 30% | ||
| Analytic Geometry | 10% | ||
| Trigonometry and its Applications | 15% | ||
| Functions as Models | 10% |
You have a total of 90 minutes to answer approximately 48 questions divided into two distinct sections. The first allows the use of an included graphing calculator, while the latter does not. Some students may fall into the trap of using the calculator on every question they can, but you'll run out of time too quickly if you try that. Our CLEP Precalculus course may teach you time management strategies to help you answer every question on the test. Of course, double-checking your work is a great idea if you have a little extra time at the end of a section!
Every CLEP Precalc class we offer also provides private instruction. You are your teacher's sole pupil during your study sessions, virtually ensuring that all of your work receives immediate feedback. Some students even say that the personal rapport established with their instructor makes it easier to ask for help as necessary.
Private CLEP Precalculus prep courses also allow students to spend as little or as much time on each topic as necessary. For example, if you excel with algebraic expressions but have a harder time with analytic geometry, your CLEP Precalculus prep course may focus on geometry until you are more comfortable with it. If you aren't sure what your unique areas of opportunity might be, the bulleted list below provides some of the contents of each section:
Topics (Non-Comprehensive)
- Ability to perform operations on algebraic expressions
- Ability to solve equations and inequalities, including linear, quadratic, absolute value, polynomial, rational, radical, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric
- Ability to solve systems of equations, including linear and nonlinear
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the concept of a function, the general properties of functions (e.g., domain, range), function notation, and to perform symbolic operations with functions (e.g., evaluation, inverse functions)
- Ability to recognize and perform operations and transformations on functions presented symbolically, graphically, or in tabular form
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the analytic geometry of lines, circles, parabolas, ellipses, and hyperbolas
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the basic trigonometric functions and their inverses and to apply the basic trigonometric ratios and identities (in right triangles and on the unit circle)
- Ability to interpret and construct functions as models and to translate ideas among symbolic, graphical, tabular, and verbal representations of functions
That might seem like a lot to go over, but working with an expert instructor in a private learning environment may help you break it into more digestible chunks. For instance, you might concentrate on the analytical geometry of lines and circles in one session, and then shift gears to parabolas and hyperbolas during the next one. The choice is yours!
Varsity Tutors also makes CLEP Precalc prep classes as convenient as possible. All instruction takes place on our proprietary Live Learning Platform, providing students with the benefits of face-to-face tutoring without the hassle of attending a physical classroom. We also try to match every student with an instructor who meets their scheduling needs. Who wants to rearrange their whole schedule just to study for a test?
If you would like to learn more about CLEP Precalculus classes or are ready to enroll today, please contact Varsity Tutors for more information. Educational Directors are currently standing by to answer any questions you may have!
