Mr. D. was able to keep my daughter engaged and interested the entire session. He made her feel confident with reading. She stated that he was the "best teacher in the world". She gave him two thumbs up and a heart. I'm very pleased with my investment towards my child's education using Varsity Tutors.

Do they have an IEP or 504 plan? (We have tutors that specialize in learning differences)

The tutor that was paired with my daughter was perfect and fits Bella's needs. Bella struggles with attention and has been on a 504 plan for years. The tools used, the interaction and flexibility are priceless. I was hesitant at first but now I'd do it again and I recommend Varsity Tutors!!

We focused on vocab strategies and math concepts. His CR for passages were good - he only missed one question today.

We went over the answers to the reading, writing, and math sections that he had for homework. He's doing pretty well. We spent most of today working through a writing section, since before we'd been primarily focusing on reading and math. We also did a paired reading passage, which is the hardest type of reading passage he can expect to see on the test on Saturday, and he did pretty well. Between now and Thursday he has a math section to do and we'll spend Thursday reviewing test taking strategies and some general math concept review.

We went over a practice SAT. When answering the essay, the student's examples were strong and supported his thesis well. He was characteristically very strong on the writing section. It also seems he has begun to pay more attention to the overall context of the passages since this issue hasn't been coming up anymore. He also understands how to do the math problems he has done incorrectly very quickly and there do not seem to be any consistent problems with specific material.

We focused on tackling down some more math, starting with triangle side rules and moving up to geometry and coordinate geometry. She continued to become familiar with the general strategies (e.g. plugging in the answers, plugging in for algebra), and was applying them on her own. I recommended that she continue through the math to have consistent practice. We will focus more on the reading/writing in tomorrow's session.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Benjamin in Encinitas, CA
Today we moved from math to writing skills. We spent most of our time on different aspects of improving sentences, going over topics including punctuation, pronoun case, subject-verb agreement, and many others. The student was courteous and responsive throughout the session. I left her with another writing section to complete before tomorrow's session.

ACT Reading Tutoring review by Christine in Encinitas, CA
The student and I worked on the reading comprehension section of the SAT today, and he already is showing great improvement since our last meeting. He is missing certain types of questions more than others, so we worked on context, and how to find the meaning of a particular word from not only the sentence containing that word, but also the sentences that precede and follow. He sometimes has trouble finishing the questions, so we will continue to work on strategies of time management in future sessions. For our next meeting, I gave him a small assignment to again hone in on his comprehension skills. I also gave him some no calculator questions from the math section of the SAT, and he again showed a very good knowledge of algebra. We will go over the equations he solved on Saturday. He is a very open learner, and I am looking forward to tracking his improvements.
