I am a Virginia state-licensed English teacher with thirteen years of experience in classroom teaching and online tutoring. I have worked with elementary through college-aged students, at remedial to advanced levels. I have a B.A. in English, Linguistics, and Speech from the University of Mary Washington(2006) and an M.A.Ed. in Secondary English Education from the College of William and Mary(2009). I tutor math and history, but my primary focus is on English Language Arts--the subject about which I am the most passionate. I believe that everyone is entitled to the best education possible, but also that education is not one-size-fits-all. I therefore employ a wide range of instructional methods, understanding that a strategy that works well for one person might not work for someone else. I make it a priority to listen closely to my students in order to find the best tools for them. My goal is not only to help them improve academically, but to help increase their self-confidence as well. Outside of teaching, I enjoy writing my own fiction, baking, and spending time outdoors.

I love meeting new people and I encourage learning because it is important for quality of life. While I teach a wide array of subjects, I love Math and Biology. I have written SAT and GRE and I love helping students prepare for these tests. In my spare time, I love to read, go on road trips, hike and ride my bike.

I am a current junior in college studying Vocal Performance and Music Theatre with a minor in Leadership Studies. I enjoy talking with people and helping them learn things I love to do! As a teacher, I focus on the most important things that each student is trying to learn. I avoid tangents and focusing so much on small topics that students get frustrated. It is important that the student feels supported throughout the entire process. I know that everyone has bad days or doesn't prepare as much as they should. I understand that completely! I work with the student even through the bad days. Communication is key with any student. I am comfortable working on audition materials short term as well as long term tutoring.
