Hi, I'm Alissa! I graduated with my master's degree in mathematics from Clarkson University in 2020 and I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in mathematics. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Frostburg State University with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science. I have been a tutor for a little over ten years. I tutored middle and high school students in Geometry, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Algebra II. I have also tutored college classes, including Statistics, Calculus I, and Calculus II. I have teaching experience from being both a learning assistant for two semesters in an inquiry-based learning classroom and a graduate teaching assistant for five years. In the inquiry-based classroom, students were in groups and they discovered the different topics in a hands-on environment. As a teaching assistant, I held office hours which were like mini tutoring sessions. Students would come with questions and I would help them understand the topics they were struggling with. These classes included College Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra, and Calculus I, II, and III. I also taught in a Developmental Mathematics course where I was a student instructor. I helped students to increase their Algebra skills and I gave mini-lectures during their classes.
I absolutely love math! I love tutoring the most because it is a hands-on, one on one interaction with students. I like to see students understand topics that they were struggling with previously, and watch them grow in their understanding of math. It is always interesting to see how they work through problems creatively and fully grasp a concept.
I have many years of experience tutoring Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Statistics, Calculus I, II, and III, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations.
I love math, and encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns you have, or schedule a lesson!
