Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

To be patient and careful in teaching so that students are able to truly understand the material.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know one another and figure out how the student best learns. Also, begin to develop a personal connection with the student so he/she feels comfortable with me.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By showing the student how gaining the knowledge in the subject will pay off in the future.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I figure out a different way to teach it until he/she understands!

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I dissect the material and slowly build up teaching each concept until the overall concept can be understood.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Asking the student to teach me the material. If you can teach it, you know it!

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I use positive encouragement.
