What is your teaching philosophy?
"Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world." - Nelson Mandela
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would have some short small talk, assess the student and talk about short - term and long - term goals. I would take a look at former techniques that have been used with the student and try to find out how we want to learn together.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By giving the tools that are necessary to be able to learn.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
The key is to praise the results and remind them of the goals we set in the beginning. I would try to use different methods of learning.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Try to find a different way/ method to teach the student. We all have different learning channels.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would give a daily homework assignment. Repetition is very important here. Different interesting books and literature can help. Maybe shows or movies that have a displayed translation could be helpful.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Different strategies for reaching all learning channels of the students. Make it fun and a friendly environment.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By doing little steps and trying to speak about why they are struggling, and what we could do together to make it the most successful.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would repeat the material we went over in the prior session. Repeated assessments and test are important to know where the student stands and if the material is applicable.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Praising the good results.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
By doing repeated assessments and tests.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
By tailoring the lesson plans to the individual learning goals and objectives.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Writing materials such as paper and pens. Flash cards, videos and media tools such as tablet. Books of course.
