I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business and I'm currently wrapping up my Master's Degree in Business.

In college, I was the president of the FAU Chess Club and competed in statewide collegiate tournaments. I was also the director of a chess program for a summer camp for two years.

Currently, I am the Learning and Development Coordinator at Honorlock, a remote proctoring company.

I can help you with your courses and break down the concepts into easy steps so you will ace your classes! I am looking forward to connecting with you :)

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to ensure that the student understands the concepts that I explain clearly. If there is any confusion, I will change the way I teach to cater to his or her learning style.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session, I will ask the student what he or she needs help in, and go from there. If the student has any homework or study problems, we can go over them step by step.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by providing useful studying and learning tips.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

A wise man once told me that motivation is a temporary concept, while self-discipline is permanent. Therefore, the best way for someone to be on task with their assignments and tests is to be self- disciplined. This is definitely not an easy task to teach to a student, because you cannot simply read a few magical motivational phrases and solve this issue. Instead, the student must ask the following to him or herself: What is my goal, and how can I achieve this? Then, the student has to be self- disciplined to follow through the goal.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Every difficult concept can be broken down into much simpler concepts. If a student does not understand part of the problem, I will "pause" solving the problem and address the issue by perhaps providing an alternate problem that only addresses the difficult concept. Once the student masters this concept, which I will make sure by having the student explain his or her thought process, I will continue on with the problem.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

The most successful strategy that I have found while working with a new student is to first determine where the student struggles. For example, if a student is in an Algebra class and cannot keep up with what the teacher is lecturing, I will help build the foundations necessary to do well in the class.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

While I will certainly provide words of encouragement to help excite and motivate the student to do well, it is ultimately up to the student whether he or she wants to succeed. I believe that everybody has a chance at success. As long as you put your mind to it, you can accomplish almost anything.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Once I feel that a student might have mastery of the material, I will have him or her teach me how to solve the problem, or to explain the concept in their own words. Studies have shown that teaching is one of the most effective methods of learning and reinforcement. If the student is unsure of him or herself, or teaches incorrectly, I will know that there is still some work to do.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would break down each idea or phrase within the reading and I would work with the student to help him or her understand what is trying to be conveyed.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I strongly believe that everyone is capable of learning any type of material, and the only thing that might hold them back is their confidence. If students are confident in their learning abilities, they can go a very long way in the world of academia.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I would first have them answer and explain a few preliminary questions and explain their thought process to me. With this, I will be able to gauge exactly where their weaknesses are, and I can use that to help the student improve.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

If a student needs to improve on fundamental concepts, I might back-step a bit on the specific topic and help the student master the fundamental concepts. If a student is already mastering the basic concepts, I will continue as usual with the more advanced concept. It entirely depends on the student's level on the subject, and it is perfectly acceptable if we need to take time refreshing fundamental concepts.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I would mostly use sample questions as a guide for me to see where the student's level is. I will help explain the solutions to the sample problems. If a student has any outside resources, such as homework or test/quiz questions, I will be more than happy to use those.
