About Louisiana

Louisiana is a coastal state with the Gulf of Mexico making up its southern border. The Mississippi runs along the eastern border and cuts through the lower half to flow into the gulf. Because of this, Louisiana is nicknamed "Child of the Mississippi." The state has a population of about 4.7 million.

Louisiana is a great place for students in high school and college to attend school. There are many options for public high schools, including Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans, Haynes Academy School for Advanced Studies in Metairie, and Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology Academy in Jefferson. For students interested in pursuing a private education, Louisiana has options available. A few examples are the Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, the Episcopal School of Acadiana in Broussard, and the Episcopal School of Baton Rouge in Baton Rouge. If you are looking for private tutoring in Louisiana, then Varsity Tutors can match you with a personal tutor that will hold sessions with you in-home or online.

Tutoring review by Brooke in Louisiana
The student continues to grasp the major aspects of her math work. She has no major holes in knowledge. The mistakes she makes are mostly due to simple errors that could be caught if she went more slowly, checked her work, and wrote out all her steps. We will continue to work on that. Overall, she is in good shape.

Both students are coming along nicely in their math coursework. Student one is spot on and is thoroughly prepared for his upcoming assessments. Student two understands the math conceptually. We will work on understanding math practically in our next session.

Tutoring review by Kim in Louisiana
During this session, the student provided a constructed response for a math word problem. She had to select a method for multiplying, solve the problem, then write an explanation for her solution. She completed her response correctly. She also worked on reading comprehension. Lesson 2 focuses on supporting details. After reviewing the skill, she answered 8/8 questions correctly. During this session, her attention and effort were greatly improved.

Tutoring review by Kristy in Louisiana
The student did a great job tonight on 6th grade writing. He learned about and how to use appositives to enhance his creative writing skills. He also worked on using the correct meaning of similar words in his writing - i.e. stared, glared, looked, peeked. He did a review on author's language with examples. He seemed to really enjoy writing his BioPoem and did a great job being very creative. He begins school next week, so we will continue working on writing, and probably some math skills.

Tutoring review by Dylan in Louisiana
Today we covered some high-difficulty algebra problems. The student is fairly familiar with the subject, but needs practice with fractions and exponent rules. With some work on those two areas, she should be well prepared for this aspect of the mathematics section. We will continue to work on these.
