As a Tutor, I am passionate about helping students take responsibility for their education and showing them that they can learn and achieve success. I have 16 years combined experience in Mentoring and classroom Teaching. I attained my primary and secondary education in magnet school programs and graduated from a state University. I have a BS in Social Services, currently I'm pursuing teacher and American Sign Language certification. I tutor K-12 Reading, Writing, Grammar, Social Studies and History. My favorite of these is History because of how the past comes alive and still effects us today. It is my philosophy that everyone learns differently, but everyone learns, therefore my tutoring style is to adapt to the student's unique learning style. I'm also interested in poetry, I act in community theatre and instruct outdoor survival seminars.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Everyone learns differently, but everyone learns.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a first session, I would spend a little time getting to know the student; likes, dislikes, strong and weak subjects. Also, I'd see how much they already know about the subject I am to tutor them on.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by helping them recognize their unique learning style.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would keep a student motivated by pausing to point out even their smallest signs of progress!
