Tutoring review by Patricia in Fairfield, WA
The student and I worked on subtraction this session. She is very creative and enthusiastic about creating games, so we used subtraction flash cards to determine how many spaces we could move on a board game. Each time we approached a problem, I asked her to solve it in different ways. One way was to count down from the bigger number, one way was to count up from the smaller number, and we verified our answer using cheerios to count the number of cheerios left after we subtracted. She did very well and particularly latched on to the "count up" method.
