Fairfield's town slogan is "the town that celebrates Flag Day." The Flag Day celebration includes a parade, a charity a bike ride, and local High School class reunions. The town is home to the Fairfield Museum, which explores the history of the area. You can visit the museum and see the many local historical artifacts, antique items from area businesses, antique farm tools and equipment, and old photographs of the town and its residents. You can also read local books, newspapers, articles, magazines, notes, and school yearbooks of years past. Housed on a local family farm, the Lost Dutchman Museum has a great deal of American history stored in a building on the farm. The main feature for the "town that celebrates Flag Day" is the 46-star American flag. The museum is free and open to the public. There are no set open operating times. You can just stop by and knock on the door. If someone is home, they will give you a tour. The museum got its name from an old sign the owner came across and has displayed at the museum.

The small town offers residents a community center to gather for parties, weddings, meetings, and special events. The center includes a full kitchen, lower level seating for a game room, and an upper level area able to accommodate 200 people. The center is available to rent for private parties or events.

The student and I had a good session today, reviewing surface area of 3D shapes. She demonstrated mastery of the subject and did not need too much assistance completing her work tonight. I suspect that she will do very well on her quiz on Friday.

Tutoring review by Patricia in Fairfield, WA
The student and I worked on subtraction this session. She is very creative and enthusiastic about creating games, so we used subtraction flash cards to determine how many spaces we could move on a board game. Each time we approached a problem, I asked her to solve it in different ways. One way was to count down from the bigger number, one way was to count up from the smaller number, and we verified our answer using cheerios to count the number of cheerios left after we subtracted. She did very well and particularly latched on to the "count up" method.
