Today we went over numbering systems. We covered the real numbers, rational numbers, irrational numbers, integers, whole numbers, and natural numbers. To help illustrate how these sets of numbers relate to each other, we created a Venn diagram and made circles corresponding to each set. We then added some examples into the circles. We also did a little review of squares, square roots, and scientific notation.

We did test corrections from the student's most recent test and prepared for the laboratory that she has coming up. She was very focused during this session and had clear goals going into the session of what she wanted to get done, which was more focused and self-directed than I had seen before. Great job!!

Today, we covered both algebra and science. The student's science class has shifted away from specific heat to waves and frequencies. Today, we looked at medians and different types of waves. For the math, we continued our work on slopes. At this point, he is very proficient with the material. It is a far cry from where we started.

We covered the review exercises of Chapters 2 and 3 of the student's textbook in order to prepare her for the upcoming test. The main concepts covered included solving equations, solving proportions, operations with algebraic fractions, and integers. We worked on test taking skills, the effective use of time, and how to approach the problems. The student had a great attitude towards the material. Further practice with end of chapter quizzes and timetables was encouraged.

I spent this session reviewing the previous section with the student. I helped him through a large number of problems on turning word problems into quadratics, finding the zeros of quadratics, completing the square and turning them into vertex form, and graphing the results. He had a good understanding of where to go with his problems.
