About Me

I am a Virginia state-licensed English teacher with thirteen years of experience in classroom teaching and online tutoring. I have worked with elementary through college-aged students, at remedial to advanced levels. I have a B.A. in English, Linguistics, and Speech from the University of Mary Washington(2006) and an M.A.Ed. in Secondary English Education from the College of William and Mary(2009). I tutor math and history, but my primary focus is on English Language Arts--the subject about which I am the most passionate. I believe that everyone is entitled to the best education possible, but also that education is not one-size-fits-all. I therefore employ a wide range of instructional methods, understanding that a strategy that works well for one person might not work for someone else. I make it a priority to listen closely to my students in order to find the best tools for them. My goal is not only to help them improve academically, but to help increase their self-confidence as well. Outside of teaching, I enjoy writing my own fiction, baking, and spending time outdoors.
