About Me

My passion for reading, writing, and learning started at a young age. I began college at 15, and graduated with my BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland College Park. I then became an AmeriCorps member with City Year DC and worked in a 6th grade classroom supporting students with attendance, academics, and behavior. I fell in love with education and was accepted to the Urban Teachers Center, an alternative certification program and graduate school with a residency model. Through UTC, I received a dual Master's degree from Lesley University in English Language Arts Education Grades 7-12 and Special Education Grades K-12. For the past 7 years, through my residency and beyond, I have co-taught in a Middle School Humanities class as a Special Education teacher and was the teacher of record for 3rd and 4th grade Humanities. Education is a craft, and one I work hard to develop. My practices come from a broad base of research, and I take feedback very seriously. I am a firm believer in modeling a learner-mindset for students. Instructors who aren't passionate learners themselves tend to get stuck very quickly! The subjects I tutor are all based in my passion for literacy and language. Whether it is younger students or adult learners, I am here to support growth in reading, writing, speaking, and thinking!
