About Me

I first began tutoring and mentoring students in early high school, when I got my black belt in a Korean martial art called Kuk Sool Won. I discovered that I enjoyed sharing something that I was passionate about with the younger students, and helping them to improve. Once I went to college and my former students entered high school, I started to share my passion in math and science with them as well. Beyond scholastic achievement, math and science allow one to understand the world we live in, and the more you learn, the more the inherent structure, beauty and interconnectedness of the natural world appear to become self-evident. As a tutor, I try to show my students why what they're learning matters, and how it can enrich their view of the world, even if they think they will never apply what they're learning in their day to day lives. The primary issue in most students is motivation, and motivation is much easier to find once they understand why they are learning what they're learning. Now, as a Biomedical Engineer, I actually have the ability to improve the world by applying my scientific understanding to problems faced by doctors and nurses, hopefully making their lives easier, as well as improving patient outcomes. I have a Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering, as well as a Masters in Engineering, and my favorite subjects to tutor are math, science, engineering and German. Outside of work, I enjoy dancing Salsa and Bachata, doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and computer programming.
