About Me

Hi! My name is Jorge and I am a language arts, Spanish, and social sciences tutor. In terms of language arts, I specialize in reading comprehension, analysis, and composition skills. I am a certified Spanish language and literature tutor at all levels, and I also teach history, geography, and politics in general. I am Spanish and Peruvian by origin, and I grew up in Florida. I have lived in three continents, and I have over five years of experience teaching in multicultural environments. I love teaching one-on-one and helping my students excel in their specific learning goals. For me teaching is like cooking, the best results are obtained when you're willing to try new things and integrate different techniques and ingredients into the recipe.

Q&A with Jorge

My teaching philosophy is to engage my students’ interest in the learning process based on their specific personality by exposing them to my own learning style and knowledge. In that sense, I try to trigger my students’ capacity to teach themselves by assessing their particular learning style, and connecting their own interests to the subject matter. On the practical side, I try to limit the range of intellectual exploration to the immediate goals outlined by the student (i.e. a specific outcome such as exam performance) unless going beyond that will help the learning process.
