About Me

I have over eight years of experience in education during which time I have worked with students of all ages and ability levels. I currently work for Fairfax County Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher. Prior to that, I worked for a nonprofit organization in New York City which provided education to low-income adult students who were preparing for the high school equivalency exam. I began my career in education as a Health and Physical Education Teacher in the Bronx, NY. Brendan has also taught and tutored high school aged students in test prep at Lehman College of the City University of New York. I graduated from Hofstra University in 2007 with a master's degree in Physical Education and earned a B.S. in Sociology from St. John's University in 1996.Brendan has a very relaxed, patient demeanor while at the same time keeping the bar set high for his students and for himself. He is relentlessly positive and always is focused on keeping students encouraged and believing in themselves. Brendan's former students speak fondly of his ability to break down challenging topics and present them in a simple, easy-to-understand way. My favorite subject to tutor is math because there are so many different ways to approach problems and because each topic is sure to have a connection to things a student has learned previously. I enjoy assisting my students in finding the method with which they are most comfortable. In his spare time, I enjoy physical fitness, reading, and spending time outdoors. At the 2014 USA Masters National Indoor Track & Field Championships, I took home a silver medal in the Shot Put and a bronze medal in the Triple Jump.
