About Me

I am a native of St. Louis, my educational pursuits led me to Wisconsin and California, where I completed my BA and MA degrees. I hold a BA in Anthropology (with Spanish and Music minors) from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, and an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in Monterey, CA. I love to travel, and have lived and worked in three countries outside the U.S. In Costa Rica, I worked with study abroad students in an Intensive Spanish Language program. In El Salvador, I taught in a K-9 school as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Most recently, I spent two years as an English Lecturer at the Institute of Language and Culture Studies, Royal University of Bhutan. Because of the wonderful experiences I've had abroad, I am most passionate about teaching both English and Spanish. I also tutor TOEFL prep and math, which was my favorite subject in school. My teaching/tutoring style is student-centered, with a focus on individual goals and needs. I am enthusiastic about learning and strive to make subjects interesting and fun so that students will feel motivated to study. I particularly enjoy tutoring because of the one-on-one interaction that allows for highly focused and accelerated learning. My hobbies include reading, yoga, and playing music (piano, guitar, and singing).
