We talked about educational goals and organizing by using a phone app. I described the importance of planning and organization in a student's life and in college. We then went over proteins specifically. We went over the basic components of an amino acid, tRNA, mRNA, and translation. The study skills I recommended were to block out 2 hours or so for studying on a regular basis. I will email a study guide for DNA. Additionally, I will make simulated test questions on Tuesday at the latest.

We reviewed what the student is studying currently in school and what he is using to study that material. He is a very intelligent student and very technical savvy. He uses a number of online platforms to study and review his homework. He sometimes forgets to turn in his work. We went over strategies to stay organized and time management skills. I know he can learn the material; it is just a matter of some structure and discipline.

We reviewed the student's English homework, which dealt heavily in reading comprehension via article reading. He also knocked out his Spanish homework. At the end, I acquired his school portal info so I can keep track of his grades.

Friday, we covered some parabolic equations to refigure per the instructor. The student did well and was able to tell me how to complete the problems. He should be mindful of carrying his + & - symbols. I think he would benefit from using a calendar and using the reminder features on his phone. Bringing books home can also be useful, especially for math or when there is vocabulary. His parents report improvement in grades, and he reports that his grades will improve further once his teachers are able to upload recent assignments.

The student and I worked through multiplication of decimals. The questions ranged from simple two-digit multiplying to three-digit multiplying. He also completed a word problem challenge that combined addition and multiplication all in one. He worked through application of combining like terms. He struggled with combining terms that needed to be subtracted versus being added. He was provided another online learning tool for combining like terms to strengthen his skills. I prompted him to reflect on organization for science; in addition, he was tasked with creating three questions from part of a passage from his earthquakes homework. He brought completed work to this session, and will continue this goal for next time. He will devise at least 10 original questions from his earthquake packet.
