Varsity Tutors can help college-bound pupils get ready for the ACT by linking them with excellent San Antonio ACT prep programs. Even though college is a year or two away, there are many high school upperclassmen who are eager to apply to their dream university. In order to be considered for your desired school, you may need to take the ACT. Many students who attend schools like Alamo Heights High School and Reagan High School will take the ACT. It's crucial for you to do well on this test because the score you receive plays a major role in the college admission process.
The American College Test, or the ACT, is an exam that contains five sections. Whether you're a junior or a senior in high school, you're probably wondering how to prepare for such an important test. You don't have to fret any longer because Varsity Tutors can connect you with two test preparation options: a prep class and private tutoring. If you like studying with other teens around your age, then you may enjoy a San Antonio ACT prep class. If you prefer personal attention from a skilled instructor, we can find you a San Antonio ACT tutor who may suit your needs. Regardless of what you choose, you will get lots of support.
What can San Antonio ACT preparation cover?
The ACT is made up of five sections, four which are required: Math, Reading, English, Science, and Writing. Writing is optional. If you choose to complete the Writing section, your time limit is three hours and 35 minutes. If you decide not to do it, you have two hours and 55 minutes to finish the test. Additionally, there are some important things you need to bring on test day: your test ticket, an ID, No. 2 pencils, a watch, a calculator, and a snack for break time. You're probably already familiar with some parts of the ACT, but let's explain each section in detail.
The Math portion contains 60 questions you have to finish in 60 minutes. Its multiple-choice questions assess the math skills you learned during your first few years of high school. The subjects it covers include trigonometry, geometry, and algebra. You'll receive 1 to 36 points on this section.
The Reading portion has 40 questions you have to complete in 35 minutes. Each question is a multiple-choice, passage-based question featuring reading comprehension situations that you may encounter in a college freshman-level course. Again, you'll get 1 to 36 points.
The English portion consists of 75 questions with a time limit of 45 minutes. Like the Reading section, it contains multiple-choice, passage-based questions except they focus on English language skills and writing quality. You'll receive 1 to 36 points.
The Science portion has 40 questions with a 35-minute time limit. It has multiple-choice questions that deal with biology, Earth/space sciences, chemistry, and physics. You'll get 1 to 36 points on this section.
The Writing portion has one essay question with a time limit of 40 minutes. The question involves an issue and three points-of-view on the issue. You have to give your perspective on the topic and then make connections between your point-of-view and the others. Though it's not mandatory to complete this section, it makes great practice for a college composition class you may take. You'll earn 2 to 12 points.
After the science portion of the exam, there may or may not be an experimental section. It'll be clearly marked for you, and it won't get a score. You should also answer every question since there's no penalty for guessing.
What benefits does each San Antonio ACT prep option bring me?
A Varsity Tutors educational consultant can connect you with prep courses or personal instruction to help you prepare for the ACT. Both of them are useful in their own way, and you can even engage in them both if you feel they help you learn best. Read on to learn more.
Do you sometimes get together with friends to do homework or study for a quiz? Well, a San Antonio ACT prep course is kind of like that, except that lessons occur in a virtual classroom. This setup allows you to communicate with an instructor and other pupils over the internet. Feel free to enroll in a two-week or a four-week course. New sections are offered every week, so you don't need to fret about them conflicting with other obligations you may have. You and your fellow pupils will work together to review sections of the ACT. For example, you can go over the components of biology or physics in the Science section. If you want to give the Writing section a try, you can practice with a sample essay prompt. In a prep course, you can also lend support to someone who might get anxious about the test, or vice versa. You can even ask for extra help from the teacher if you want direct assistance in certain areas.
One-on-one attention with a tutor is an excellent option for those who want personalized attention to specific areas on the ACT. On your first day with a private mentor, you can discuss your academic strengths, college dreams, and ideas. An instructor can use this information to create a study plan to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments when needed. An educator can also conduct lessons in ways that complement your individual learning style. For instance, if you absorb information better by viewing something, they can provide books or documents, especially if you want to strengthen your reading comprehension skills for the Reading section. A private instructor can assist you in any way you ask.

I like to be creative and adapt to the learning style of a student. My goal is to make learning fun and never feel like a chore.... Adapt to what kind of learning the student best responds to; that way learning is fun and easy going, and never frustrating.... Get to know each other a bit, in order to know how to approach each topic the best way possible.... I think making different suggestions on how I taught myself, the material could bring some insight to someone in how to go about understanding the topic.

...my students, being able to interact with them individually, and helping them actively engage with the material. Working individually with students also allows me to design lessons specifically for them, taking into account their strengths, struggles, personalities, and interests. Students learn best by actively engaging with the material not just hearing and seeing, but by thinking, speaking, writing, and (most importantly) practicing. Therefore, I take a very hands-on approach to student learning.... I will teach others like as if they were me. I will give them many examples and analogies that helped me understand concepts. I will make the subject as easy and intuitive as possible.
