I have lived in San Antonio for the past year, but I originally moved here because I was studying optometry. During college, I had the chance to work with a number of students, teaching and supporting them as they worked hard toward their goals. Math and science can be challenging and frustrating, but I have personally seen what is it like for something to finally click with a student. All students come from different backgrounds, and will have different goals and expectations from themselves and from me. I believe that with my help anyone should be able to meet and hopefully even achieve their expectations.
Because no two students are the same, I believe that it is important to evaluate what an individual's most effective learning style is. Ideally, this means that each student would come to me and tell me exactly what works for them and what doesn't. However, many students don't know exactly what works best for them, and may not even be aware that they prefer one teaching style over another. That is where listening and being patient become very important aspects of my job, and is why one on one time can be so valuable. I can develop a relationship with a student that allows me to customize and personalize a program specifically for them.
