What will Richmond SAT prep go over?
The SAT includes three sections you are required to complete. These sections consist of Math, Writing and Language, and Reading. The SAT also has a fourth section, which is the Essay. The SAT will start anywhere from 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM. The SAT will end anywhere from 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM, depending on whether or not you choose to complete the Essay portion. During this exam, you will have one 5-minute break and one 10-minute break. We will now go into detail about what you will see on the exam.
In the Writing and Language section, you will have 44 questions you will need to answer within 35 minutes. All questions in this section are multiple-choice. You will be reading passages to answer the questions in this section, which will be testing your knowledge on standard English conventions, command of evidence, words in context, and expression of ideas.
In the Math section, you will have 58 questions you will need to answer within 80 minutes. The Math portion of the test is broken down into two sections: in one section, you can use a calculator, and on the other section, you cannot. The section that allows you to use a calculator has 30 questions. You will have 55 minutes to complete that section. The section that doesn't allow you to use a calculator will have 15 questions. You will have 25 minutes to complete that section.
In the Reading section, you will have 52 questions you will need to answer within 65 minutes. This section is very similar to the Writing and Language section. You will be reading a few passages in this section as well. The passages you will be reading may come from contemporary or classic U.S. and world literature, the United States founding documents, chemistry, Earth science, biology, or physics. This section will be testing your knowledge of words in context, command of evidence, and analysis skills.
As we've mentioned earlier, the SAT Essay is optional. You do not have to take this section if you do not want to, though some colleges will ask for this score. The Essay section is 50 minutes long. During this section, you will be required to read a passage. You will then need to figure out the author's reasoning, persuasive elements, and evidence from the passage. You will then need to write your own essay wherein you discuss the author's agreement and persuasive abilities. It is not required that you agree with the author's point of view. You will only be dissecting the author's argument. For you to put your best foot forward, you will need to brush up on your writing, reading, and analysis skills.
