I am currently a college student majoring in Early Childhood Education (P-5) and Early Childhood Intervention (P-5). Through my experience, I have found that reading not only helps children learn the grammar and speech skills they need but also piques their curiosity and opens the door for further learning. Emerson said that the secret of education is respecting the student. I have the greatest respect for that part of the human spirit that is curious and wants to learn. I find that if students feel they are listened to and heard, this allows them to feel encouraged. When they begin to understand that learning can be fun, the whole process becomes exciting and joyful. We are all curious and like to learn.
