What can Nashville ACT prep help me review?
The ACT is broken down into four sections, including Math, Science, Reading, and English. You will also have the option of completing a fifth section, the Writing section. With just under three hours to complete the four main sections and an extra 40 minutes to complete the writing section, you will need to work efficiently in order to cover all the material. Covering such a vast amount of material requires efficient test-taking skills and strong attention to detail. Working to strengthen your subject knowledge can help you minimize stress and build confidence for test day. Here we will take a deep dive into each section so you can get a better idea of the wide variety of topics that you will face on the test.
The Math section allows you 60 minutes to complete 60 questions. Here you will be tested on pre-algebra, elementary and intermediate algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. While one minute per question might seem like ample time, it is important to have a strong grasp of mathematical concepts and formulas in order to work quickly in this section.
The Science section will measure your interpretation, analysis, evaluation, reasoning, and problem-solving skills by asking you to complete 40 multiple-choice questions in 35 minutes. An understanding of scientific analysis, such as the ability to understand and interpret data to solve problems, is integral to your success in this section. Topics in this section include chemistry, Earth and space sciences, biology, and physics.
In the Reading section, you will be tasked with reading and analyzing passages. Your success in this section will depend on your ability to identify central themes, summarize ideas, and make meaningful connections between different texts, among other things. You will be given 35 minutes to answer 40 passage-based questions. The content that you encounter will reflect materials commonly studied in first-year college classes.
In the English section, you will encounter 75 multiple-choice, passage-based questions that measure your understanding of English and knowledge of language skills. You will have 45 minutes to complete this portion of the exam. Refining your general understanding of the conventions of the English language, such as sentence structure, punctuation usage, and grammar, will help you revise and edit the text-based passages provided.
Finally, the optional writing section asks you to read the given prompt and write an essay in response where you develop your own perspective on the issue. To write a successful response, you must coherently state your own perspective while analyzing the connections between your perspective and one of the three perspectives provided. It is important to develop original ideas and arguments in order to provide a thoughtful critique.

I believe that all people have the capacity to have a successful career in math, regardless of their prior experience. I have reached this assertion by being a middle school math teacher. I have worked with both special education and gifted students and I have seen both be curious, motivated and successful in math. I am so excited to focus in on one-on-one instruction at Varsity Tutors and I look forward to tutoring you!... I believe that mathematics education should be differentiated for each student. One strategy that may help one student may not help another, and that's okay. It's all about figuring out a way to make the math accessible for the student at hand.
