How can a Latin tutor help you?

Varsity Tutors may connect you with tutors in Cleveland who are skilled at helping students prepare for Latin class. Are you getting more and more frustrated as you try to understand Latin pragmatics, sentence structure, and semantics? Latin may be complex and the understanding of how to use the right accent, the proper spelling, and the Latin alphabet may be challenging. Is there a feeling you've fallen hopelessly behind and now every new topic further deepens your bafflement? The solution to your problem is to get an experienced Latin tutor to try to help you to get through the fog of confusion. You're at a disadvantage in the classroom because the teacher proceeds at the rate of speed needed to get through the coursework by the end of the semester. This is fine unless you're having problems and don't understand everything you're being taught. With a Latin tutor, all sessions are built around you and the reinforcement you need. There is no need for your tutor to rush you through topics you barely understand, because there are no time constraints or deadlines to meet. The most important goal is making sure you understand the material. One-on-one tutoring in Cleveland, OH, may afford you the ability to fine-tune your Latin skills by asking questions and getting immediate feedback.

One problem students have is not knowing how to study efficiently. Your Latin tutor may size up your academic situation. He or she may then draw up an individual lesson and study plan that takes into account the areas where you need the most reinforcement. You'll spend most of your study time focused on the areas where extra work is needed. Less time is spent going over the material you already know. If you find studying for your Latin course overwhelming, let us find you a talented tutor in Cleveland, OH, who may make the process easier.

Session Summaries by Latin Tutors

Latin Tutoring review by Andrew in Cleveland, OH
Yesterday was our first session. The student had a couple of passages he needed to translate for homework, so we worked through all of one and then about half of the second. He told me that he really didn't remember much Latin at all, but I found that he knew more than he thought he did. His vocabulary knowledge was pretty decent. When it came to verb forms, he generally did well. We did some on-the-spot review of some of the special uses of various cases as we translated, as we encountered, say, an ablative of means, and at the end of the session we used the last few minutes to review a few case uses that their class recently covered/reviewed. I will come back to some of those in more depth next time.

Latin Tutoring review by Christopher in Cleveland, OH
We're continuing to work through chapter 12 of the book. The bulk of the session was spent in going over the practice exercises I assigned last time and then in going through more verb morphology practice--taking a present form of the verb, and making it perfect or imperfect, or vice versa. We also worked on translating the exemplary reading. I assigned more verb exercises for practice; I anticipate that we will finish chapter 12 in our next meeting.

Latin Tutoring review by Amy in Cleveland, OH
This session we split our time between discussing the use and translation of relative pronouns and studying for the student's upcoming vocabulary quiz. He had a bit of a challenge initially with relative pronouns and clauses, since it is a new grammatical topic, but was doing great by the end of the session. For extra practice, I asked him to finish translating the few sentences we were working on together.
