Some of these include:Spending 2 years studying at a university in Tokyo, Japan as well as working there as an English language teacher.Working as a tour guide and English language instructor in Rome, Italy.I grew up in Springfield, MA and earned a B.A in Japanese Language and Literature from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst. 1st Grade Reading Tutor • +15 Subjects
I first started helping students reach their goals when I was still in college. I worked in an intensive Japanese-language course during my summer breaks, teaching a year's worth of curriculum in only a few weeks. After graduating magna cum laude from The Ohio State University with a BA in Japanese and Linguistics, I spent time in Korea and Japan. For the majority, I taught in English immersion programs, teaching everything from phonics and essay writing to science and math. I had students of all levels: younger students who were still learning to read, write, and tie their shoes, older students attempting to enter international or American/British high schools and universities, and adults who wanted to brush up or continue to learn more.I enjoy working with students and seeing them learn and make progress. I like to think that learning anything can be fun. It all depends on the approach you take. During my time in Japan, I continued to study Japanese myself, passing the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency test. Preparing for the different levels of the test constantly reminded me of challenges people can come across trying to obtain a goal. When I have free time, I like to catch a new movie (or an old one that's new to me), take pictures, or head outside and see what I can find. I look forward to meeting you.

I'm most passionate about helping students because during my middle school and high school experience I relied heavily on outside help to do well in school. Being a student who needs a variety of teaching techniques, I understand that you need to find fun and unique ways to learn and retain what you're learning. Right now, I'm received my Bachelor's of Science degree in Physics, with a minor in Japanese and Mathematics. I am currently pursuing my Doctorate in Philosophy in Experimental Nuclear Physics at Vanderbilt University. Math and science were subjects I formerly thought I was not good at and did not enjoy, until I found teachers and tutors who got me excited me about STEM experiments and discoveries, and encouraged me to learn more. I hope that I can inspire students who feel they are not good at math and science, and therefore do not enjoy it, to learn the beauty in those subjects and enjoy what they're learning.

I am a recent graduate from Texas A and M University and received my Bachelor of Science with Magma Cum Laude. I'm from Japan and speak Japanese, Chinese, and English fluently. I used to be a president for the Japanese Language and Culture Club, which I occasionally teach Japanese to students. Also, I was a TA for microbiology in college for a year and I tutored in math and reading in college and high school. I received 5 on AP Japanese and Calculus BC. I really enjoy teaching, especially Japanese, Algebra, biology and chemistry, and I would love to help students out by delivering my passion and hard work in academics, encouraging students to ask questions and making the tutoring fun and organize.

Hello! My name is Kyler and I am currently a Senior at Indiana University studying Japanese Language and History as well as Political Science. As I am very passionate about these fields, I also really want to help others learning about these subjects in any way I can. I plan on becoming a teacher someday and I hope that through Varsity Tutors I can help students gain greater understanding and interests in these subjects among others. I am incredibly patient and will do whatever I can to assist students in comprehending material as I know how hard it can be sometimes, especially with things that do not particularly interest some people. Currently I assist students at IU through the Japanese conversation table, where students come to practice speaking.

I customize my teaching style to the individual students' needs and personality. I am great at building rapport with students and figuring out what they need, especially with small groups of students or 1-on-1. I have a lot of educational theory knowledge thanks to my master's degree from NYU in TESOL and Foreign Language Education, and I've put that into practice during my teaching: elementary ESL and high school Japanese and English/ESL. I've also taught English in elementary schools in Japan, and worked online and in person with kids and adults in ESL and Japanese. I have experience tutoring for standardized tests as well. I believe that we can work together to construct knowledge instead of just lecturing at you while you memorize facts. I want to help you learn, grow and realize your own potential!

I am an outgoing and fun math and ESL tutor with ten years of experience tutoring and teaching.I have a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree with an Education minor from University of Massachusetts Amherst. I have a preliminary license to teach mathematics for first through twelfth grade.I also have a CELTA certificate (equivalent to TOEFL).My passion in tutoring and teaching started in high school. I started privately tutoring a high school student in algebra, history, physics, and English. This rewarding experience introduced me to the field of education. I started to tutor students in every subject I could. During my college years, I tutored in math and science at an after school program at an elementary school. I also tutored at a high school for ESL and algebra. After my college years, I taught countless international students in ESL and college level math in both a classroom and a one-on-one lesson. To improve my teaching abilities in ESL and to help those who struggled with English as I once did, I also became CELTA certified. Through the course, I took the initiative to tutor adult international students in ESL even after the program had ended. I also received my preliminary teaching license while working as a long-term substitute teacher at a local Latin school. I taught four sophomore geometry courses and one senior statistics course for six months. It was an extremely rewarding experience and I hope to apply my skills and experiences with more students. The thing I love the most about tutoring is that unlike a classroom, I can focus on exactly what the student doesn't understand. It lets me build a much closer relationship with the student. I believe that my patience and skill of teaching subjects in multiple different ways can truly benefit your child. My goal in teaching mathematics is to show students that there are various ways of absorbing knowledge. Every student has a different style of learning. Helping the students find their individualistic styles enables them to thrive even in other subjects. I want my students to not only share my love for mathematics, but also discover their passions for their future careers.

My passion is connecting people with information and data. It's not always readily apparent how this can be done, or how I can convince people that the information is worth knowing. That's why, as a teacher, as a developer, and as a human being, it is my responsibility to make that information both accessible and useful. This can be best accomplished by connecting with people, discovering their passions and motivations, and relating information to them in an understandable and enjoyable way. Knowledge and information empowers all of us to live better, more fulfilling lives and brings us together as human beings.
