HSPT prep may help your student get more out of the time they've already planned on devoting to studying for their upcoming test. If you'd like to learn more about how an HSPT class can positively impact your child's study sessions, then continue reading. Or, you can get in touch with us today if you're ready to get your student started with an HSPT course now.
The High School Placement Test (HSPT) is a standardized exam taken by eighth-graders interested in enrolling in a private or independent high school for ninth grade. A student's score on the HSPT may be used as a part of the admissions process at the schools they apply to. It could also influence the scholarships a student is offered or where the classes they can start taking once they begin studying at their high school. HSPT test prep can help your child get ready for this important exam. More information on how HSPT prep can help your student pursue their test goals is available below.
First, here are some of the sections your student will encounter while taking the HSPT:
HSPT Required Sections
- Language
- Mathematics
- Quantitative
- Reading
- Verbal
HSPT tutoring is a unique way for your student to prepare for their exam. They'll be able to work with HSPT tutors who are experts on the material your child is studying. Since HSPT preparation takes place through one-on-one learning sessions, your student will be able to get help with the specific subject areas they need to study the most. Similarly, the intimate academic setting that HSPT test preparation takes place in means your student can save time during their test preparation process by avoiding the material they already understand. This is why HSPT classes can be such a valuable addition to any student's study plan.
Below, you'll find some helpful tips for getting started with the HSPT preparation process:
Suggested HSPT Test-Taking Strategies
- Listen to and read the directions for each subtest carefully.
- Pace yourself - Time limits are set for each subtest. Try not to spend too much time on one item. You should be notified when a subtest's time is 50% complete
- Read each question carefully.
- Work out the problem on scratch paper. No calculators allowed.
- There's no penalty for incorrect answers, so guess rather than leaving problems blank.
- Check your work. If there is time left, go back and review your answers.

...can remember, I have wanted to be a teacher. I believe that teaching is more than a job, more than a career; it is a calling. Making a difference in the lives of others is important to me. I can't think of another job that offers that opportunity as much as teaching.... The first session would begin with me getting to know my student. I want to know what they enjoy doing, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and find something that we have in common. The commonality will give us something from which to build a relationship. After these things are accomplished, it will be time to get down to the business at hand - learning!

...8 years and have been doing private tutoring for the last 6 years. I love seeing my students reach their "aha" moments. That is what is most gratifying to me as a teacher is helping the complex become simple. I work on teaching materials with different methods so that all can learn.... I try to use multiple methods of teaching: visual, auditory, hands-on (when possible), and having the student write as well. Whichever method seems to work best with the student is the one I try to utilize as much as possible.
