Session Summaries by Economics Tutors

Economics Tutoring review by Cortland in Spokane, WA
In today's session, the student began and completed chapter 22 (the final chapter) of the text. This chapter looked more in depth at the information age, specifically the development of e commerce and the issues that came along with it. We also discussed the statistics practice problem from the online course work that corresponded with the chapters from this unit. We spent a significant amount of time discussing the meaning of GDP per capita - a statistic that shows the wealth of a nation relative to its population size.

Economics Tutoring review by Elnora in Spokane, WA
Today, the student and I focused on economics again and he worked through a learning activity that focused on the concepts of consumer and producer surplus. He indicated that this topic would not actually be covered in detail until after our session, but he remembered a number of concepts from a previous course. Overall, he did a great job and there were only a few questions related to producer surplus (and the interpretation of graphs) that were challenging. However, he plans to review these concepts again. I also provided him with a technique to evaluate certain types of problems and the technique involved using the area of a triangle to obtain the values (and changes in values) needed.

Economics Tutoring review by Catherine in Spokane, WA
The student and I reviewed concepts for the midterm and went over questions he missed on all recent homework. He appears to struggle not so much with broader concepts of economics, but with more basic concepts of algebra - which makes application of some quantitative concepts in the course more difficult than they should be. We will continue to work on that.

Economics Tutoring review by Daniel in Spokane, WA
I covered some of the student's worksheets, and we reviewed aggregate supply, aggregate demand, and GDP. He initially had some trouble with identifying which event would shift which aggregate curve, but he was able to make sense of it after we discussed it. I just had him think of first whether it is supply or demand and then whether it's a right or left shift.

Economics Tutoring review by Isaac in Spokane, WA
The student and I worked through some supply and demand shift questions, some consumer and producer surplus theory, and some concepts relating to elasticity and normal/inferior goods. She was quite confident and on top of her material, our session was more one of clarifying concepts and clarifying some ideas. She had a positive attitude towards the material that we covered. I gave a few study techniques that have helped me with dealing with multiple shifts in supply/demand graphs. I noted some good progress in her understanding of economic concepts.
