Let Varsity Tutors help you prepare for your medical licensing assessments by setting you up with a Dayton USMLE prep program. Medical school is one of the toughest degree programs one can undertake, but the difficulty doesn't stop with the coursework. If you want to actually practice medicine, you will need to first pass the United States Medical Licensing Exam, or USMLE for short. The comprehensive nature of these exams combined with the pressure many students experience when taking the assessments means that the USMLE can be a major point of stress and anxiety for many aspiring doctors. Even star students at top institutions like Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine can benefit both mentally and academically from enrolling in supplemental prep programs to help them prepare for their licensure assessment.
What concepts will be covered during Dayton USMLE prep?
The USMLE is a lengthy, comprehensive assessment that covers virtually everything you've encountered during medical school. The USMLE isn't a single exam, but rather multiple assessments taken over a total of five days. The entire exam is broken up into three sections called Steps. Registering for USMLE preparation can help you prepare for all of the content covered in these exams, as well as help build your confidence and improve your test-taking skills so that you're better prepared when it's time to start your tests. Let's look at each section of the assessment more closely.
Step 1 is the first portion of the USMLE. This portion consists of 280 multiple-choice questions covering basic science and how it applies to medicine. Step 2 is broken up into two different sections, and each section is covered in a single day. Here, you'll be assessed on your Clinical Knowledge and your Clinical Skills. It's important to know how to apply your studies practically in a real-world environment in order to pass Step 2, and many students admit to struggling with the Clinical Skills part of the exam. That's because the Clinical Skills portion requires you to attend to 12 patient cases. You're only given 15 minutes to see each patient, and then you're given 10 minutes to record each patient's medical notes. If you're someone who struggles to work under pressure, it may be a good idea to enroll in a prep program to help with this portion of the test.
Step 3 is the final portion of the test, but you need to pass the first two Steps before you can move onto this section. Step 3 is also conducted over the course of two days, with both assessments looking at how well you understand and apply basic science and your medical knowledge. This part of the USMLE is used to assess how ready the test-taker is to practice medicine in an unsupervised environment.
What are the benefits of the different types of Dayton USMLE prep?
If you prefer to learn in a classroom-style environment where you follow a curriculum taught by a professional instructor, we can enroll you in a Dayton USMLE prep course. There, you will study in a virtual classroom using video chat, digital whiteboards, and other tools provided on our Live Learning Platform. This method of instruction gives you the opportunity to review complex material in a collaborative environment by working with other students studying for the same assessment. And if you need additional help grasping difficult concepts, you can arrange to see your instructor for further help. That way, you never have to worry about being left behind.
The second option is working with a Dayton USMLE tutor in a private one-on-one setting. This is a great way to learn through custom-tailored lessons created especially for you. The benefit of private instruction is that you can focus on key areas, like Interpretation of Medical Literature or Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Puerperium, while skipping over the concepts that you already know. Best of all, your private instructor can even create a program with your preferred learning style in mind, so that you can prepare in a way that works best for you.
