If you're interested in taking a Buffalo USMLE prep course but aren't sure how to get started, Varsity Tutors is the resource you have been searching for. The USMLE (or the United States Medical Licensing Exam) is a series of three cumulative tests that American medical licensing authorities require as part of the process to legally practice medicine in the United States. Yes, this means that you will be tested on nearly everything you have studied at a local medical school such as Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo or another institution. If you feel that you may need professional assistance preparing for these challenging exams, contact us today so that we can enroll you in a Buffalo USMLE class.
What can I study in a Buffalo USMLE course?
The content you study depends entirely on which "Step," or part, of the USMLE you're studying for. For example, Part 1 is a long (seven hours!) multiple-choice exam assessing whether you have the scientific foundation expected of med school students at the conclusion of their second year. The test is broken into seven 60-minute blocks, creating an interesting paradox where you constantly feel like you're under the gun despite the length of the exam. Your instructor can show you test-taking strategies to help you guess even if you don't know the answer to a question, allowing you to move onto the next item in a timely fashion.
Part 2 has a Clinical Knowledge exam comparable to Part 1, except that it lasts eight hours instead of seven. There's also a Clinical Skills component that evaluates how well a test-taker can interact with both patients and colleagues in a professional setting. If you're an introvert who isn't too keen on being graded on your social skills, you might benefit from role-playing with your instructor and fellow students to get a sense of what you're expected to do and say on test day.
Part 3 is a two-day test that consists of a six-hour multiple-choice exam on day one and a combination of multiple-choice items and computer-based case simulations on day two. The simulations are designed to thrust prospective physicians into an environment where they may need to make life and death decisions within a strict time limit, accurately representing what it's like to be a doctor. It's almost never a good idea to go into this section cold, so your teacher can provide practice simulations to give you some experience before you sit for the exam.
What are some of the advantages of taking a Buffalo USMLE course?
Taking a formal course allows you to meet with a knowledgeable instructor and like-minded students to review USMLE concepts in a structured learning environment. Each instructor undergoes a rigorous interview process, so you can trust that you will be working with a great communicator with the most recent information regarding the assessment. Our exclusive Live Learning Platform also allows you to see and hear your instructor as if you were in the same room, even if they're miles away from Buffalo. As a result, asking for clarification is as simple as it would be in a physical class.
Our platform also allows you to interact with your peers in real time. If one of your new friends is struggling with the mechanics of the nervous system, you can try explaining it to them while reinforcing your own understanding of the material. Similarly, hearing a fellow student's interpretation of the role of social science in medicine may help it click for you. Many students find that studying in a collaborative learning environment makes it easier to grasp difficult concepts, so don't knock working in a group until you've tried it.
Taking a Buffalo USMLE class also gives you value for your money, as you receive expert instruction without having to pay the entire bill yourself. You can also arrange private study time with your instructor on an as-needed basis, allowing you to get personalized extra help if you need it.
Most importantly, we allow you to take a class on your schedule. Since everything happens online, you don't need to budget any time to commute anywhere. We also offer multiple class sessions simultaneously, including both two and four-week options to make it easier to find a fit for your lifestyle. New sessions also start monthly, so you don't need to wait too long before you get started.
