Students who are getting ready to apply to colleges and want help before they take the ACT can connect with an Albany ACT tutor by contacting Varsity Tutors. Even if you're not starting college in the next year or so, it's not unusual for high school students to start thinking about the college application process. That process usually includes one of two standardized exams: the ACT or the SAT.

Secondary school students in Albany, including those who attend area institutions like Albany High School or Bishop Maginn High School often choose to take the ACT in addition to the SAT. The score that you get when you take the exam can be an important factor in your college application process. This comprehensive exam covers topics like English, Math, Science, and Reading, and has an optional writing section. If you're just beginning to prepare, you may be interested in looking for Albany ACT preparation help. Varsity Tutors can connect you with an Albany ACT tutor or enroll you in an Albany ACT prep course.

What does Albany ACT prep include?

In addition to sections on Reading, Science, English, and Math, there's also an optional Writing section. If you don't take the Writing portion of the exam, you'll have 2 hours and 55 minutes to complete the test. The ACT Plus Writing adds another 40 minutes to the overall test time frame. We're going to explore each section here.

In the Reading section, you'll have 35 questions to answer in 40 minutes. These include passages that you'll be asked to read, then answer questions that judge your ability to use texts in reasoning, determine meanings, and judge connections between different texts.

The Math section consists of 60 multiple choice questions that cover topics in pre-algebra, elementary and intermediate algebra, coordinate and plane geometry, and trigonometry. You'll have 60 minutes to complete the 60 questions in the section.

In the English section, you'll encounter 75 multiple choice questions that include passages to read and respond to. These focus on style and tone of language, sentence structure, topic development and other elements of overall comprehension. You'll have 45 minutes to finish this section.

The Science section is comprised of 40 multiple choice questions that cover biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences; and physics. These questions evaluate your ability to use the scientific method, your knowledge of procedures and your ability to design scientific investigations. You'll have 35 minutes to finish this section.

The optional Writing section gives you 40 minutes to read a passage that features multiple perspectives on an issue. You'll be asked to respond in a well-written, organized essay after you've analyzed it.

What are the benefits of the different types of Albany ACT Prep?

Whether you're looking for one-on-one instruction or you prefer to study in groups, Varsity Tutors can connect you with the resources you need. Both have benefits, and some students even opt to combine both methods. Let's talk about what an Albany ACT prep class or working with an Albany ACT instructor in private sessions can do for you.

For those who want private instruction and one-on-one interaction, we can connect you with an Albany ACT prep tutor. In private sessions with an academic coach, you'll have opportunities to review each of the sections that you can expect to see on this college entrance exam. Working with someone in this way provides focused attention that you may not be able to get in a classroom.

Your academic coach can get to know you from the first day, learning about your academic strengths and the topics you struggle with; they learn about your personality and how you work. They can then use that information to create a personalized plan of study that they can rearrange whenever necessary based on what they see and experience in the sessions with you. If you're worried about the Math section, your academic coach might dedicate multiple sessions to that content or find study aids that you can use to boost your preparation. They can also dedicate a session to a practice test as you go along so that you get an idea of what the ACT exam will be like.

If you're a student who would prefer an ACT class with other students, an Albany ACT prep course might be the right way to prepare. You'll take these classes via the Internet using an online learning platform that puts you in a classroom with an instructor and other students who are looking for the same help. Group activities and discussion can help you to see new angles that you can use to study for the exam sections that might be worrisome. Although you're in a group study session, you'll still have an opportunity to interact with your instructor on a one-on-one basis as well.

There's flexibility in the group study option as well. You can choose to take an Albany ACT prep course in either two-week or four-week versions. New classes begin every week, so you don't have to worry about joining a session that's already in progress.
