I have a background in finance, law and public policy, and I'm currently pursuing my Master of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. I worked in consulting for 3 years, working with clients from various industries. In college, I worked as a teaching assistant for computer courses, supporting students in mastering technical material and problem-solving skills. I also have 4+ years of tutoring experience with elementary students and have volunteered with the Emily Shane Foundation, where I worked with middle school students on subjects including math, reading comprehension, social studies, and organizational skills.
I primarily tutor math, English, writing, reading comprehension, public speaking, beginning Mandarin, and test prep. I'm fluent in Mandarin (speaking, reading, and listening) and help beginners gain confidence with tones and basic conversation. For standardized test prep, I focus on breaking down strategies and targeting the specific areas where students need the most support.
I especially enjoy tutoring math and reading because I love helping students develop problem-solving and creative skills they can carry with them. I've also mentored adults overcoming homelessness, supporting them with career development and life planning. These experiences have taught me how to meet learners where they are, adapt to their learning style, and celebrate their progress. Whether a student moves quickly or needs extra time, I adjust the pace to match their goals and learning style. My focus is always on helping them see real growth, build confidence, and stay motivated in a supportive environment.
Outside of tutoring, I'm involved in education policy work, civic engagement, and community service. I care deeply about helping students reach their potential, whatever their starting point. I would love to work with you to make some progress in your learning! Please reach out!
