As a credentialed Wilson Reading System Level I tutor, I am certified to deliver authentic Wilson lessons with fidelity. The Wilson method is a research based high quality Structured Literacy program designed to teach dyslexic students and struggling readers the skills to become competent, confident, independent readers. The Wilson program is rooted in scientific research into how children learn to read. This evidence-based approach integrates the five critical components of literacy - phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension - to ensure students learn to read and spell. I earned a Wilson Reading System Level I Certification at Drexel University School of Education. I earned an AMS Montessori Elementary Age 6-12 Credential at The Barrie School for Advanced Montessori Studies, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Delaware Valley University.
I have more than eight years of experience as an Elementary classroom teacher, teaching Grade 1 through Grade 6. With two years of tutoring experience, I am most passionate about tutoring dyslexic students and struggling readers using the Wilson Reading System.
The principles of multisensory, individualized instruction are at the foundation of my teaching philosophy. My tutoring approach is to meet each student where they are, and to provide consistent positive feedback and steadfast encouragement, until the student meets his or her goals. Students in need of tutoring are often working very, very hard to catch up, and I have great respect for this work of the student. Keeping students motivated by personalizing lessons according to student interests, and keeping the tone positive is so important! I support students in meeting goals, such that the student's competence and confidence grow progressively, to demonstrate to the student a true love of learning for the independence and empowerment it brings them. Making literacy attainable for a student truly opens up the world and all of its possibilities and opportunities. I am passionate about supporting literacy for all students.
